A better Food System?

I’m here to create a food system, or actively participate in one, that is not harmful. No, I don’t mean “not to kill anything.” That is simply not possible. We all need to kill something when we eat. Rather, what I am trying to find is a way everyone can eat what they want without participating in harmful practice of modern world industrial food system.

Some may call what I am trying to create as a “regenerative” food system. Others may say having “reciprocal” relationship with the food source as well as harvesters/growers/precessors. Yet others may say eating in One Living System. I’m yet to find the words for it. Tentatively I’ve been saying to bring more LOVe in the food system that we engage in.

Today, I am making my first 100% home grown whole wheat bread. Well, not quite because I bought the wheat berries from Bluebird Grain Farms who practice regenerative agriculture. But I started the sourdough in my kitchen and milled the flour at home. The air raised the sourdough connecting me to the atmosphere. I’ve been having relationship with it over the years with some success and failures. Today, I am taking it one step further by inviting in the grain from Eastern Washington and milling it myself. When I have a bite of this bread, I am one with the air, micro-organisms, water — the LOVe of life.

Perhaps, the food system I am working to create and share with others could be called “relational.” I want to place myself in good relations with all my relations. And I want to make it an easy and natural choice for everyone who wish to do that same  Miigwiech!
